Why small ice
Sessions run on PowerPlay's 70′ × 60′ surfaces on Harvester Rd. Less space means more of the moments that actually make players better.
The puck is never far away, so every player handles it far more often than on a full sheet.
Less time and space forces players to read, react and move the puck quickly — exactly what rep hockey demands.
Constant 1-on-1 and 2-on-2 situations along the boards and in front of the net build compete and confidence.
Every drill finishes close to the goal, so players get more quality shots every hour they're on the ice.
Tight turns, quick stops and constant changes of direction build agility and footwork.
Small groups on a small surface keep every player moving, working and engaged the whole session.
Most real game plays happen in tight spaces near the boards and the net — not in open ice.
It's the same idea behind Hockey Canada's cross-ice and half-ice games for young players: more touches, more involvement.
